J-Kidd to Mavs: The D. George Sabotage

Yesterday everyone was reporting that Jason Kidd was going back to his original team, the Dallas Mavericks along with Malik Allen for Devin Harris and an assortment of wack Dallas players, including Devean George.

Only we forgot that Devean George played with Kobe and Shaq on three NBA championship teams and he has pull. So in a bold move to remind us that he has been a key player for three title teams, he blocked the trade. Why? Who knows. The irony is that not too long ago, George was requesting to be traded if his playing time didn't increase.

The icing on the cake is that George went 0-11 in the game against the Blazers last night, apparently trying to change the minds of the New Jersey Nets.

Do your thing, Devean.

He blocked it cuz he loses his Bird rights if he's traded to another team. In short, he stands to lose money at the end of the season when he becomes a free agent. Obscure rule, but it makes perfect sense from his end. He's playing on a one-year contract; why risk losing millions in three months to play for the damn Nets?
