Earl We Miss You

Three years ago I had an argument with a buddy of mine. I told him that Earl Boykins was a better pure scorer than Tracy McGrady. My feeling was that Earl was only 5'5" and able to control the game and sometimes he seemingly could score at will. That's not easy. It looks like my friend has ultimately won the argument as Boykins is AWOL (does anyone know where he is?) and out of the NBA this season.

This is a guy that scored a career-high 33 points (11-21 FG, 3-3 3FG, 8-9 FT), handed out eight assists and pulled down two rebounds in 48 minutes against the Suns just two years ago.

In memory of this mighty midget, I give you a photo tribute that shows our guy Earl was never scared of a bigger challenge.

Earl turned down an offer from Milwaukee in the offseason for a couple mil cuz he thought he'd get more somewhere else. Lo and behold, no one's all that interested in a 5'5 gunner who wants $5 mil or more.

Yeah he's an idiot for not signing, but do you think he is continually turning down offers or just that no one is offering him anything? Blacklisted?

The league cracked down on giving marginal players huge contracts to the extent that even the ones deserving the money don't get it anymore. Except Rashard Lewis. Anyone who gets outplayed by Hedo Turkoglu on a regular basis does not deserve to be earning 115mil over 7 years or 6 years or whatever it is.

I think he turned down legit offers cuz he thought he'd get more money, and when he didn't, it was too late. Rosters were filled, etc. And he's just two one-dimensional for any team to throw into the mix without disrupting chemistry and gameplans. I suspect you may see someone sign him for a playoff push, get some punch off the bench.
